Vintage Stereo/ Do the Math
This ad from National lampoon 1972 illustrates the true value of vintage audio equipment. The receivers advertised range in price from $239.00 up to $429.00 in 1972 dollars.Things are roughly 6 to 10 x more expensive now (2011) i.e hamburger and french fries @ .75 cents in 1971, $7.50 in 2011.
With this calculation, these receivers would cost between $1,400- $4,000.00 today. They're well made and virtually bullet proof. The power ratings are REAL and can be purchased at garage sales and thrift stores for almost nothing.
