The Yonge Street Pedestrian Mall

There's a great article here about the Yonge Street Pedestrian Mall of the early 1970's.
Another postcard from Chuckman's.

  1. I know it varied from year to year, but any idea where this particular photo was taken? It looks like it could be between Dundas and Gerrard?

Also, is there an email address I might be able to contact you at?

  2. This is the east side of Yonge south of Gerrard. The Tavern on the left is now Remington's.
You can send your email and I will respond and the delete your comment/address.

  3. First of all, I absolutely love your blog. I've wanted to go to the Toronto Archives for ages, but find the prospect daunting.

I am writing up sort of a history of the "Hug Me" tree at the corner of Queen and Soho, and I was wondering if you have come across any images of the tree before it was cut? I found a link on the Toronto Archives site about planting trees there in the 1960s, but couldn't figure out how to open the image. Any help would be much appreciated, and I would give you full credit for finding it.

You can email me here if you like: kris@hogtownblues.com

  4. One last thing: I don't want it to sound like I am asking you to do my homework for me! I plan to go to the archives this coming Saturday, I only asked in case you might have already grabbed some of the images I am hoping to find. Sorry if that was unclear.

  5. OK, I guess I offended you somehow - not my intention. Sorry.

    Still, great blog!

  6. I had a look for info on the tree but didn't find much. You might do well to go down there and talk to some of the jewelry vendors. Some of them have been there for years.

  7. Ah, good idea! I'm going to the Toronto Archives tomorrow, I'll see if I can find anything, and if not I will check with the jewelry vendors. Actually, I'll talk to them anyway. Thanks for the idea - sorry if I came across rude.
