The Queensway/Then and Now

Back in 1957 this was a nice little strip mall on the north side of the Queensway west of Royal York.
Now a little sad....

  1. More than a little sad. What always strikes me is the poor state of signage today - backlit silkscreened plastic lightboxes versus really nice neon or unique, hand-painted work. Their disappearance probably happened around the time that doors all gave way to those awful standard aluminum units with the cheap grip bolted to the crossbar - an emblem of grimy standardization and the tactile ugliness of modern life.

  2. Very well put. Vintage signage does have a particular charm to it and ages very well.Unlike vinyl signs which just curl up over time.
