Spadina and Dundas/ Then and Then and Now

Another re-post showing Dr. Moorehead's house on the N/E corner of Spadina and Dundas.

The same view a year later. Note the trees and boulevard have disappeared as the road was widened.The grand house on the right was built by Dr. H.H. Moorehead in 1886 and was demolished shortly after this picture was taken. The Standard Theatre was the built on this corner in 1921. Re-namned the Strand in 1935 and after the war The Victory.One hundred years later and things have certainly changed.
It's no longer a residential neighbourhood.

In 1968 the row houses seen in the second photo were still there, but not for long.
In 2010 the row houses are long gone but the Art Deco mechanic shop/garage is still there.

Dundas Farmhouse /Then and Now

This old house on Dundas near Burnhamthorpe has managed to survive.

The Brown Derby, located on the N/E corner of Yonge and Dundas was open from 1949 until 1974.

In the 1970's the exterior had a "mod" face lift.

Looking east from Dundas across Lansdowne in 1917. The building on the S/E corner is a bank.
For years afterwards it was the Dunlan restaurant and had a wonderful 1940's serpentine counter and several small booths.Scenes from David Cronenberg's Naked Lunch were shot there in 1991.

Dundas and Howard Park/Then and Now

The TTC has been very good at documenting their work over the years. The photos tend to concentrate on the track details but there's usually enough information in the background to make them interesting. Here's a series of photos of the track replacement at the intersection of Dundas and Howard Park taken in the fall of 1935.
